About Tara

Leading beauty entrepreneur Tara Fela-Durotoye is the founder and current C.E.O House of Tara International. who pioneered the bridal make up profession in Nigeria.

She is the wife of renowned strategist, Fela Durotoye of Gemstone Nigeria, and they have been married since May 2001. She is a lover of gardening, classical music , tea and tea parties.

As the current CEO of House of Tara International, Tara Fela-Durotoye is a leading beauty entrepreneur who has built a strong beauty brand that is beyond borders and is well-recognized internationally.  

Known for pioneering the bridal makeup profession in Nigeria, Tara launched the indigenous House of Tara product line, Orekelewa, and the country’s first makeup school in 2005. Since then, she has used the House of Tara brand to promote the African culture and story to the world.  

Through Tara’s remarkable efforts, House of Tara has become a national brand with 25 branches, over 5,000 sales representatives and over 150 employees with presence in most major cities across the country and distribution channels in Kenya and Rwanda and a plan to expand to other cities in Africa, Europe and North America.  

Tara’s entrepreneurial success story has been an inspiration to many young people, especially women. To date, over 1,500 students have graduated from her makeup school and many have gone on to start their o­­­wn businesses and a number work for international cosmetic brands.

Following her passion to see the next generation of women flourish, Tara started the Tara Fela-Durotoye Series (TFD Series) in 2015 as an initiative to mentor, empower and support women between the ages of 25-35. Since its inception, the TFD series has been able to mentor over 1000 women either directly or indirectly through the TFD Series Pay it Forward platform. finding herself at the cutting edge of women mentoring women.

In recognition of her contribution to the industry and her active role in empowering the next generation, Tara has received several national and international awards which include being recognised as part of the Class of 2013 World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders and also being selected as the only Nigerian to take part in Fortune’s Global Women Mentoring Partnership program. She is a member of the African Leadership Network (ALN), alumni of the Lagos Business School and sits on the advisory board of Awesome Treasures Foundation and Bridge International Academies, which is the world’s largest education innovation company.

Tara is happily married to Fela Durotoye and she is blessed with three sons.
